Position Overview: As an Aquatic Biologist, you will play a key role in conducting research, collecting data, and analyzing aquatic ecosystems to assess their health and integrity. You will work on a variety of projects, including freshwater and marine environments, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop conservation and management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Field Research and Data Collection:

    • Conduct field surveys and sampling to assess the biological and ecological characteristics of aquatic environments.
    • Collect water quality data, sediment samples, and biological specimens using standardized methods and equipment.
  2. Species Identification and Taxonomy:

    • Identify aquatic organisms, including fish, invertebrates, and plants, to species level using taxonomic keys and field guides.
    • Document species abundance, distribution, and habitat preferences.
  3. Data Analysis and Interpretation:

    • Analyze field data and laboratory results to assess the health and condition of aquatic ecosystems.
    • Interpret ecological indicators and assess ecosystem function and resilience.
  4. Report Writing and Documentation:

    • Prepare technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and scientific publications summarizing research findings and recommendations.
    • Present findings to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  5. Habitat Restoration and Management:

    • Develop and implement habitat restoration and enhancement projects to improve aquatic ecosystem health and function.
    • Collaborate with engineers, landscape architects, and restoration specialists to design and implement restoration plans.
  6. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements for aquatic projects.
    • Provide technical support and expertise to support regulatory permitting processes.
  7. Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Communicate project objectives, methodologies, and findings to clients, stakeholders, and community members.
    • Collaborate with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders to advance conservation goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in aquatic ecology, freshwater or marine biology, or environmental consulting.
  • Strong field research skills, including experience with aquatic sampling techniques and equipment.
  • Proficiency in species identification, taxonomy, and ecological assessment methods.
  • Experience with data analysis software and statistical techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Passion for conservation and environmental stewardship.
