Electrical Engineer is primarily responsible for providing electrical and power distribution engineering and design assistance to worldwide production facilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides technical guidance in the generation of specifications, standards, and procedures concerning all power systems design, construction, maintenance, and operation issues
- Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for all low, medium, and high voltage electrical power distribution systems, including digitization of facility electrical area classification systems, arc-flash analyses, power systems analytics, and power system protection systems.
- Responsible for the development of preventative maintenance routines for all of power distribution systems.
- In collaboration with the Automation and Digital Strategy team, supports and follows the established technical direction for design and installation of instrumentation, electrical gear, backup power systems, e-SCADA, etc.
- Keeps abreast of current developments and trends in the field. Must be able to assimilate and apply quickly newly acquired technical information that may vary in complexity and scope.
- Proactively seeks out and applies innovative system improvements in electrical work processes
- Provides technical direction for engineering contractors on electrical systems technology, instrumentation, analysis equipment, and low, medium, and high-voltage electrical power systems. Provides troubleshooting assistance to technicians.
- Contributes to the development of our clients Corporate Design Standards
- Participates as a member of the Automation and Digital Strategy team, collaborating on advanced troubleshooting and analysis of power distribution systems.
- Generates and/or reviews, and approves specifications for electrical equipment, UPS, switch gear including design drawings/calculations.
- Develops written job scopes, creates/revises single-lines, and approves E&C design drawings.
- Participates in E&C contractor qualification.
- Participates in incident investigations, RCFAs, FEMAs, RCMs, etc., as well as all capital project P&ID and PHA / HAZOP reviews.
- Builds and maintains electrical system models
- Performs field audits on electrical equipment and installations
- Validates settings for the coordination of electrical protective devices
- Serves as Electrical SME for site maintenance, construction, and project leaders
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of power distribution equipment application and component maintenance routines
- Strong knowledge of switch gear, motor control centers, soft starts, VFDs, smart electronic relays, etc.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
- Thorough understanding of the effects and mitigation of harmonics in power systems
- Strong work ethic and hands-on approach, self-starter and self-motivated.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Must work effectively with others outside the line of formal authority to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 25%)
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required, P.E. license a plus
- 4+ years’ experience in electrical engineering supporting petrochemical, or similar operations
- Knowledge of industrial safety and OSHA regulations required. Proficiency in NFPA 70E arc flash hazard protection requirements and standards a must.
- Expertise with Allen Bradley / Rockwell electrical hardware a plus.
