As a WordPress Engineer, not only will you create incredible web applications and site overhauls for numerous clients, you’ll also offer exciting creative solutions and outside-the-box ideas to make those products even better. You are a skilled front end engineer and an enthusiastic open source advocate with an eye for detail and several custom WordPress builds under your belt.

Responsibilities

  • Build custom WordPress themes from scratch on your own or as part of a team
  • Test, maintain, enhance and troubleshoot existing client sites
  • Translate designs and technical requirements into modular, performant, and accessible HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Provide estimates for project work and offer alternatives when challenging tasks threaten project budgets or timelines
  • Make recommendations for efficient front end approaches and methodologies
  • Collaborate with designers to develop modular design systems to promote efficient code reuse
  • Participate in technical discussions and contribute ideas to improve internal tools and processes

Requirements

  • Ability to write SEO friendly and semantic HTML
  • Expert level knowledge of CSS and modern layout concepts like flexbox and grid
  • Well versed in the use and syntax of CSS pre-processors ( we use SCSS )
  • Familiarity with modern JavaScript standards and tooling ( we use NPM, Webpack, and Babel )
  • Experience with or desire to learn React
  • Understanding of WCAG accessibility requirements and how to implement interfaces that meet them
  • Experience using Git
  • Basic PHP knowledge
  • Familiarity with the WordPress ecosystem and advanced theme concepts ( custom post types, custom taxonomies, filters and actions )
  • Ability to communicate professionally and clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues and clients alike
  • Ability to think creatively and occasionally fill in gaps left by designers such as determining the best layout for an intermediate responsive breakpoint or implementing subtle animations
  • Experience with Figma and/or Sketch
  • Experience with WooCommerce
  • Experience with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin
  • Experience with building custom Gutenberg blocks
  • Experience with Pantheon and/or WordPress VIP
  • Experience integrating third party code and APIs
  • Moderate to advanced PHP experience
