Sr. Controller (Prefer Multistate Property experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Controller will play a key position in the organization with responsibility for managing the accounting function. Responsibilities include accounting for our corporate entities as well as oversight of accounting for our managed properties. The position is responsible for managing the corporate accounting department including the maintenance of our books and records, general ledger accounting, and financial statement reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. In this role you will be responsible for daily monitoring of the general ledger and all subledgers, month-end journal entries, and the month-end close process. This position will also manage payroll, accounts payable, insurance and procurement. Assist the CFO with, internal controls, creation and monitoring of performance metrics and tax compliance functions. In addition, this position will lead the annual audit process and will be an integral part of the annual budgeting process. The Controller should be a critical thinker who is strong with accounting systems and processes that will ultimately result in an accurate reporting and forecasting of consolidated financial results.

 

• Works with the CFO as a key member of the finance team

• Directs major accounting and reporting functions including consolidation of multiple entities

• Maintains general ledger

• Prepares and oversees month end journal entries

• Overseas payroll processing, compliance and 401k

• Oversees accounts receivable and payable functions

• Hires and trains accounting staff

• Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting software and systems

• Coordinates and manages the external audit process

• Assists with development of accounting and internal control processes

• Assists with tax compliance

• Performs related duties as assigned by the CFO

 

Education, Work Experience Requirements and/or Competencies:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; MBA preferred

• CPA preferred but not required

• Minimum 10 years of progressively complex positions

• Prior IB and/or PE experience preferred

• ERP selection and conversion experience (Sage/Intacct preferred)

• Big 4 or equivalent audit experience

• Complete technical knowledge of GAAP compliance with ability to interpret and apply.

 • Multi-location, Multi-entity experience

• Real estate investment experience

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work with and influence peers

• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting

• Experience with Corporate Finance

• Strong command of revenue recognition policies

• Proficiency with utilizing accounting software
