Systems Engineer

Fredrick, MD - Full Time

Job Title: System Engineer

Job Description:

As a System Engineer with expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, and DoDAF/UML Viewpoints (SV, CV, OV), your role will involve the development and management of complex weapon systems or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). You will utilize advanced modeling techniques to define system requirements, architecture, and behavior, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. Your knowledge of MBSE, SysML, and DoDAF/UML will be instrumental in the successful design, development, and integration of cutting-edge defense technologies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Systems Engineering: Apply systems engineering principles and methodologies to develop weapon systems or UAS, ensuring system requirements are properly defined, validated, and managed throughout the lifecycle.

  2. Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): Utilize MBSE techniques and tools to create and manage system models, focusing on SysML (Systems Modeling Language) for capturing system requirements, architecture, and behavior.

  3. DoDAF/UML Viewpoints: Implement DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework) and UML (Unified Modeling Language) viewpoints, including System View (SV), Capability View (CV), and Operational View (OV). Use these viewpoints to develop and communicate system architectures, requirements, and operational concepts.

  4. Requirements Analysis: Analyze customer needs and operational scenarios to elicit, document, and manage system requirements. Utilize techniques such as Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and develop requirement models (e.g., use cases, activity diagrams) to capture and validate system behavior.

  5. System Architecture Design: Develop and refine system architectures, employing various architectural frameworks and viewpoints. Ensure architectural integrity, traceability, and compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

  6. Model Integration and Validation: Integrate system models from different domains and disciplines, ensuring consistency and coherence across the system. Perform model validation activities, including verification and validation of system requirements and behavior.

  7. Collaborative Development: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, and subject matter experts, to develop integrated system solutions. Foster collaboration, communication, and coordination among team members to achieve project objectives.

  8. Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, architecture descriptions, and design documents. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate system designs, progress, and findings to stakeholders.

  9. Configuration Management: Implement configuration management practices to control and track system models, artifacts, and baselines. Ensure version control and change management processes are followed to maintain the integrity of system models.

  10. Industry Standards and Best Practices: Stay updated on the latest industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends in systems engineering, MBSE, and DoDAF/UML methodologies. Continuously enhance your knowledge and skills through training and self-study.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Proven experience in systems engineering, preferably in the development of complex weapon systems or UAS.
  • Strong expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques and tools, with proficiency in SysML.
  • In-depth knowledge of DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework) and UML (Unified Modeling Language) viewpoints, including SV, CV, and OV.
  • Experience in requirements analysis, system architecture design, and behavior modeling (e.g., BDD, use cases, activity diagrams).
  • Familiarity with configuration management practices and version control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex systems and their interdependencies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in
  • Creston experience
