Senior Accountant

Main Point

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions.

Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. You will work under direct supervision of a Controller

Responsibilities

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Provide technical support and advice on Management Accounting 
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements including statement of financial position, statement of activities, statement of cashflow, statement of functional expenses and other reporting.
  • Review accounting information and internal controls to ensure compliance with US GAAP and Uniform Guidance.
  • Partner with other departments to ensure accuracy and timely completion of month-end close.
  • Assist with the management of contract & grant administration function and guide division managers in interpretation of and compliance with award regulations including but not limited to 2 CRF Uniform Guidance 200.
  • As needed, preparation of reports for insurance company and other vendors.
  • Researching, identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate internal financial management policies, procedures, and systems of internal controls.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Manage accounting assistants and bookkeepers
  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
  • Provide input into department’s goal setting process
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns
  • Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Plan, assign and review staff’s work
  • Support month-end and year-end close process

Qualifications

  • · Previous experience in public accounting highly preferred.
  • · Previous experience as an accountant, assistant controller, or in a similar role.
  • · Professional certification such as CPA, CFM, or CMA preferred.
  • · Excellent understanding of GAAP and relevant financial accounting regulations.
  • · Strong computer skills and knowledge of accounting software programs.
